M.A. English Literature

A Master’s Degree in English Literature equips students with advanced skills in language and
literature, preparing them to meet the challenges of the global world. Graduates have opportunities
in fields such as Journalism, Technical Writing, Advertising, Copywriting, Teaching, Publishing,
and Medical Transcription. The programme fosters aesthetic appreciation, critical thinking, and
effective communication in English.

Eligibility

BA English Literature / BA English Literature (CA) or Part-II English at the undergraduate level
(with four semesters).

Special Features

Need-based training classes such as NET/SET preparation, seminars, workshops, paper presentations,
symposiums, and training in soft skills and communicative English are part of the curriculum.

Research Project

Students are required to undertake a research project on a related topic and present a paper at
the conclusion of the programme.

Department Activities

The Department of English inaugurated “Reflections” – The English Literary and Debating Association
on 25.08.2023. Dr. A. Hazel Verbina, Assistant Professor, Dr. G.R. Damodaran College of Arts
and Science, Coimbatore, was the Chief Guest. The event included invocation by the Department Choir,
welcome address by the Association In-Charge, felicitation of the Chief Guest, installation of office
bearers for the academic year 2023–2024, and concluded with the National Anthem.

On 08.09.2023, the association commemorated International Literacy Day with an
inter-department poster design competition on the theme:
“Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies.”

On 19.09.2023, World Ozone Day was observed with an inter-department essay
writing competition on the theme: “Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change.”
